Murder cell loyal to Khalifa Haftar busted in Benghazi, Dignity Operation militiaman reveals

A ring aligned with Khalifa Haftar's military command has been arrested in Benghazi for committing murder, Faraj Egaim, the chief of so-called “Special Tasks Force,” a militia group that worked under Khalifa Haftar's command, disclosed on Tuesday.

During a tribal meeting of Awaqir tribe in Benghazi, Egaim said his force had arrested the 15-memebr cell inside a villa in downtown Benghazi while plotting assassinations to a number of people, including him and Defense Minister designate of UN-proposed government Mihdi Baraghati.

UN General Assembly bans Libya from the right to vote

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) deprived Libya of the right to vote in its meetings because Libya had not paid the fees required by the UNGA for two years now.

In a resolution posted on the UNGA’s Facebook page on Monday, the UNGA clarified that according to article (08) of the UN Charter, the member country that delays paying off the required fees to the UNGA cannot keep the right to vote in the UNGA’s meetings if the delayed fees hit 2 consecutive years or more.

International forum views potential chances to invest in Libya

The Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) in Tripoli has announced that it is going to hold “The UK & Libya Trade and Investment Forum” on July 14, in cooperation with the Middle East Commission in London.

The forum aims at stressing the need to rebuild Libya and to open the door for investments in Libya, outlining Libya’s potentials for such steps, knowing that the forum will host investors from the UK and other countries in addition the Libyan and British representatives, the LIA added.

Libyan Sovereign Wealth Fund sues Goldman Sachs bank

On Monday at London Supreme Court, the lawyers of the Libyan Sovereign Wealth Fund (LSWF) accused the American bank, Goldman Sachs, of taking advantage of the officials of the LSWF, who are inexperienced, to sign agreements that cost the fund 1.07 billion euros.

The whole issue between the fund and Goldman Sachs goes back to some agreements signed back in 2008 after the fund had been formed and assigned to manage Libya’s oil revenue.

Military veterans: Airstrikes in Derna are carried out by militias and mercenaries

Military veterans and army officers in Derna have condemned Dignity Operation airstrikes on the city that left a number of civilians dead.

Colonel Yahya Al-Osta said in a statement on Sunday the airstrikes that killed civilians, including children, were carried out by armed militias and mercenaries who have no links to the army.

He added that war criminal Khalifa Haftar and his militia groups are a far cry from the military values and principles after they started targeting civilians and populated areas.

Western media call them "forces loyal to Libya's internationally backed unity government," but the Head of UN Mission in Libya Martin Kobler hinted that the identity of these forces is still unclear.

On Sunday, Martin Kobler visited the High Council of State where Council President Abdul-Rahman Al-Swaihli expressed displeasure over the international community's delay to fulfil its commitment to arm the forces fighting ISIS in Sirte and treat the wounded.

Father and his son killed in Haftar’s airstrikes on Al-Hila, Derna

A source from Derna reported that a father, Faraj Al-Mizyani, and his son – Ibrahim Faraj Al-Mizyani, were killed in an airstrike on Al-Ardam district near Al-Hila in southern Derna by Khalifa Haftar’s warplanes.

The father and the son were killed Monday due to an airstrike by Haftar when they were on their way to Um Al-Rizim district to cash out their salaries from there, the sources added, saying that their bodies arrived at Al-Harish hospital in Derna, with one of the bodies having his head separated from the body.
