League of Libyan Ulema chairman: Accusations against the Mufti do not represent us

Chairman of the League of Libya's Ulema (Clerics) Omer Mawlood said Monday the statement of the league which accused Grand Mufti Sadiq Al-Garyani of inciting violence between Libyans does not represent the league.

Sheikh Mawlood clarified that the statement was issued by members of the league in the eastern Libyan city of Bayda.

Late in March 2016, several Libyans received the UN-proposed government with a lot of hope, wishing that it would help them out of their ever-accumulating problems. However, the people’s hopes were dwindling as the government turned out to be incapable of finding out any solutions for their issues despite all the international political support it had been endowed with. This Presidency Council of the government is still operating from Tripoli's Abusittah Naval Base, an easy location to escape if situations went wrong.

 

Al-Ahli loses 0-1 against Al-Fateh Al-Ribati from Morocco at CAF Confederation Cup

Tripoli-based Al-Ahli lost its first match in the two-group round 0-1 against Al-Fateh Al-Ribati from Morocco at Mulay Al-Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, Sunday night.

The only goal in the match came after the second minute of the second half and was scored by Mohammad Al-Nahiri.

Al-Ahli is going to play Al-Kawkab Al-Marakishi from Morocco on June 28 as part of the second round matches. The match will be played in Tunisia’s capital since Libyan teams are banned from playing official matches at home.

Ammari: Presidential Council has recently been off track in dealing with the Libyan status quo

The member of the UN-proposed government’s Presidential Council (PC), Mohammed Ammari, sent a letter to the Head of the PC, Fayez Al-Sirraj, telling him about the wrong track the PC is going through in handling the Libyan situation, pointing out to the complete absence of transparency in all what the PC is doing, not to mention making some decisions that go against the general consensus, he added.

Libya's Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadiq Al-Gharyani has refuted allegations of Dignity Operation media which claimed that he had called for attacking the people of Benghazi.

"I call for attacking the oppressors, I urged the revolutionaries to head to Benghazi after Sirte not for attacking people, but to attack the aggressors, to fight Haftar and his soldiers only," he clarified on Sunday during his weekly program on Tanasuh TV.

Tobruk-based HoR declares mobilization and appoints a military commander for the eastern region

The Speaker of the Tobruk-based HoR, Aqilah Saleh has announced mobilization of fighters and appointed the HoR’s Chief of Staff as a military commander for the districts between Tobruk and Derna as well as Ben Jawad town, in central Libya.

Slaeh’s mobilization decision comes after an attack carried out by Ajdabia Liberation Operations Chamber in cooperation with Defend Benghazi Brigades on southern Ajdabia, where the HoR is in control of the ground (150 km western Benghazi) on Saturday morning.

Igzit wants the Presidential Council reformed

The member of the High Council of State in Libya, Belgasim Igzit, urged for reforming the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government, indicating that the current formation is not working as expected.

In a press statement, Igzit said it is clear for everyone that with the current formation and number of members, the Presidential Council would definitely be unable to reach consensus and accord as well as unable to be a feasible and practical unity that can face the massive number of inconsistencies on the ground.

Kajman calls for end to airstrikes on Derna, likens them to IS terrorist crimes

The member of the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government, Abdelsalam Kajman, urged for putting an end to the ongoing fight in the eastern region, denouncing the continuous killing of civilians due to airstrikes.

On his Facebook page, Kajman said any military action that does not go under the legitimacy of the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord must be stopped, warning of going back to the drawing board, which is the aim of such airstrikes, in an indication of the rogue General Khalifa Haftar’s forces.

Protests in Tripoli against UN-proposed government

Many people took to the streets in Tripoli on Wednesday to protest against the UN-proposed government.

A local source reported that the protesters set some tires ablaze and blocked some roads in the capitals such as Ghout Al-Shaal, Al-Saba crossroad, and Al-Firnaj neighborhood, holding slogans denouncing the UN-proposed government and the Presidential Council.

A child was killed and others were wounded in Haftar’s airstrikes on Derna

On Wednesday, one child was killed and three others were wounded due to an airstrike carried out by rogue General Khalifa Haftar’s warplanes on an amusement park in Derna’s cornice.

This air raid comes after the death of a father and his son last Monday as their car was targeted by a Dignity Operation’s warplane while they were coming back from Um Al-Ruzim town, 50 km to the east of Derna.
