UNSMIL agreement signed amid nation-wide rejection

Unauthorized members from the GNC and Tobruk Parliament signed in the Moroccan city of Skhirat on Thursday the UNSMIL-brokered agreement to form a government of national concord.

It was signed by HoR member Emhimmed Shoaib and GNC Second Deputy President Saleh Al-Makhzoum, who resigned from the GNC dialogue team in August. Faiyz Sirraj was named as the prime minister for the government.

Derna Shura calls foreign companies to resume projects in the city

Derna Shura Council has called Turkey's Ozaltin Holding and South Korea's Won Construction to return to the city and resume their infrastructure projects.

The council, which controls the city, promised to provide full protection and security for both companies' workers and equipment.

The call came after the defeat of IS militants by fighters of the council in June.  

GNC urges UNSMIL to back Libyan-Libyan dialogue track

The General National Congress said on Wednesday it fully backs the Libyan-Libyan dialogue that was kicked off in Tunisia on December 05 and was crowned Tuesday with a direct meeting in Malta between presidents of GNC and HoR.

In a press conference following a sitting on the political dialogue, GNC spokesperson Omar Hamidan urged the UN to give this dialogue the needed backup.

He confirmed that the GNC has not mandated any of its members to attend or sign Skhirat agreement, slated for Morocco Thursday.

Malta communiqué calls for rapid formation of concord government

Members of the GNC and Tobruk Parliament stressed in Malta the need to accelerate the formation of a national unity government representing all Libyans to achieve the objectives of the 17th February revolution and lead the country during the remaining transitional period.

In a communiqué following the joint meeting between both parliaments' presidents on Tuesday, they also emphasized the need to combat terrorism in all its forms and stop the expansion of extremist organizations, in addition to eliminating them.

After the torment of the last four years in Libya, progress towards a power-sharing agreement is a cause for optimism. Without the country’s politicians accepting they must work together for the good of their citizens, there will be no future for our country.

But the strength of this future will depend on our economy and, in the short-term at least, how we make the most of our natural wealth. We need to get our oil industry back on its feet.

HoR bloc rejects outcomes of Rome Conference

The National Bloc in Tobruk Parliament rejected Monday results of Rome Conference, describing the conference as a violation of Libya's sovereignty.

It confirmed, in a statement, that the dialogue is strategic and inevitable for all the Libyan people, provided that it should be without trusteeship from some countries and extremist powers, according to the statement.

President of the General National Congress Nuri Abu Abu Sahmain and President of Tobruk parliament Aqailah Saleh held face-to-face meeting in Malta for the first time since the start of the Libyan political dilemma.

The meeting, hosted by the Maltese government, aims to find a way out of the Libyan political crisis. Both sides are expected to vow their full support for the Libyan-Libyan dialogue and the declaration of principles announced by the two parliaments in Tunisia on December 05.

The Head of GNC Political Committee has revealed that some GNC members were threatened with sanctions if they refused the UNSMIL agreement.

"We have received threats from one of the General National Congress members that participated in Rome conference," said the Head of the Political Committee of the GNC, Abdul-Fattah Al-Shilwi.
