GNC: Tobruk Parliament speaker used hate speech at UNGA

The General National Congress denounced the recent speech by the Head of Tobruk Parliament Aqailah Saleh in the UN General Assembly describing it as clumsy.

In statement on Thursday, the GNC explained that such speeches ignite conflicts, encourage hatred and block the dialogue process, requesting an apology from Tobruk Parliament. 

Arab, Muslim students exempted from tuition fees

The Ministry of Education in the Salvation Government has exempted the Arab and Muslim students studying in elementary, intermediate and secondary levels from paying tuition fees in all schools within the country.

Undersecretary of the ministry Khaled Rizik told Ajwa Net the decision came after claims from the Syrian community to the Education Committee in the GNC.

In 2012, the Ministry of Education abolished tuition fees on Arab students whose guardians had work contracts with the Libyan state.

Revolutionaries’ council stresses support for army establishment

The Supreme Council of Libya Revolutionaries –SCLR- reiterated on Thursday their commitment to the establishment of army, police, security and civil institutions as well as combating terrorism and extremism away from external Arab and foreign interventions.

In a statement, the revolutionaries denounced cases of murder, torture and forced disappearances, particularly those occurring on the coastal road between Tripoli and Al-Zawiya where supporters of renegade General Khalifa Haftar are active.

Ban Ki-moon urges Libyan parties to sign agreement

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged on Friday the two Libyan political rivals to act quickly and make the final step toward a peace deal.

Addressing a high-level meeting on Libya at the United Nations headquarters, he urged all parties to put aside their differences and act on the draft agreement they have before them.

He said the UN envoy for Libya, Bernardino Leon, has assured him that the parties "remain committed and will not go back on their word."

Eastern security chiefs disown Al-Thanni government, join Haftar's forces

Security chiefs in eastern Libya said on Thursday they will disobey orders of the interim government of Abdullah Al-Thanni and they will not comply with its decisions.

In a statement, the chiefs accused Al-Thanni's interior ministry of corruption and disruption of security services.

In a turning point, the chiefs confirmed they will only take orders from Colonel Moamin Bozohra, chief of Al-Bayda Security Department, who was appointed by renegade General Khalifa Haftar as the General Coordinator of Police Forces.

Al-Bayda tribal leaders, revolutionaries vow support for Colonel Abu Ghafayar

Al-Bayda tribal leaders expressed Tuesday their full support for Ali Hassan Al-Jaber brigade and its chief Colonel Mohammed Abu Ghafayar.

In a tribal meeting following a visit to Derna by a fact-finding delegation, notables and tribal elders of the city ascertained their support for Colonel Abu Ghafayar and expressed appreciation of his role in fighting terrorism. They also rejected presence of any outside forces in their city.

Oil guards killed in drive-by attack

Three guards were killed and others were injured in a gun attack on the central oil port of Al-Sidra on Thursday.

Initial reports say drive-by attackers, believed to be IS-affiliated ones, opened heavy fire using automatic machine guns on the western gate of the port. One attacker was also killed in the exchange of fire with the guards according to reports.

GNC departs for New York amidst rejecting voices from all parties

The dialogue team of the General National Congress has left Tripoli heading to New York to participate in the political dialogue round there amid disagreement between GNC members over the latest draft.

 The team arrived first in Skhirat, Morocco, on Wednesday to prepare for the trip to New York as requested by the UNSMIL, which decided to hold this round in the UN headquarters in New York.

Libyan Red Crescent aids Tripoli immigrants

The Libyan Red Crescent (LRC) distributed Wednesday food aids to the illegal immigrant at the Illegal Immigration Fight Authority’s shelter in Al-Sikka Road in Tripoli.

The LRC’s health care team has also conducted a full medical examination on the sheltered immigrants and medicines were given for 95 of them.

Al-Sikka shelter is a temporary center that accommodates illegal immigrants till they are deported to their home countries.
