GNC mourns death of Benghazi protesters

The General National Congress has offered condolences for the families of the victim protesters of Al-Keesh Square in Benghazi, describing the incident as a treacherous and cowardly act that aims at worsening the city's status quo.

In a statement earlier on Saturday, the GNC reaffirmed that the perpetrators of this heinous crime must be captured and brought to justice, stressing that the GNC will spare no effort in its continuous search for a solution to the Libyan crisis to spare the bloodshed and brings back stability and security.

First Libyan debating championship held at Misrata University

The first edition of Misrata University Debating Championship kicks off at the university’s arts faculty today.

All the university’s faculties are involved in the three-day event, the first of its kind ever held in Libya.

The debating event, organized by Dialogue and Debate Club and sponsored by Misrata University, will see students debating on political, social and economic issues.

Libya leaves CHAN after losing match to Morocco

Libya’s local football team lost 4-0 to its Moroccan counterpart in the final match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifications held on Thursday in Tunisia.

Defending champions, Libya, left the CHAN by losing this match to Morocco, which, along with Tunisia, qualified for the CHAN 2016 finals in Rwanda next January.

The Libyan local team is the champion of the 2014 CHAN for the first time in history with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win over Ghana.

Benghazi Diabetes Center to close down; health centers disown ministry

Benghazi Diabetes Diagnosis Center is to close down on Thursday 22 due to lack of vital medicines, staff of the center has announced.

In a statement on Wednesday, the staff attributed the deterioration of health situations in the center to the inattention of the minister of health in Al-Thanni government and his failure to supply the center with vital medicines including insulin for type 1 diabetes patients.

Leon asks Tobruk parliament to approve agreement to win international recognition

The Head of the UNSMIL Bernardino Leon said on Wednesday that the international community might not recognize the extension of Tobruk parliament mandate.

Commenting on the self-extension beyond October 20 during a press conference in Tunisia, Leon required the approval of the final draft and unity government in return for international recognition.

Salvation Government to launch large-scale operation to eliminate Tribes Army

A large-scale military operation is to be launched in western Libya soon, the Ministry of Defense in the Salvation Government declared on Wednesday.

Ministry spokesperson Mohammed Abdul-Kafi said the operation aims to get rid of militants of the so-called Tribes Army until peace and security are prevailed in the entire region.

Libya oil and gas forum held in London

The 4th edition of New Libya Oil & Gas Forum kicked off in London on Monday. The forum is sponsored by several foreign private companies, which are endorsed by the National Oil Corporation NOC.

Chairman of NOC Mustafa Sunallah said the forum is an opportunity to exchange experiences and benefit from others’ experiences especially that the oil and gas sector had witnessed many difficulties over the past few years.

Gaddafi supporters forced out of Atawailah district

Sabratha Military Council-led forces have taken full control of Al-Ajilat city and Atawailah  district, chief of the council Taher Al-Gharabli confirmed today.

Heavy clashes against the Tribes Army erupted Tuesday when the army launched a surprise attack on Al-Ajilat to take the city.

The Tribes Army is now stationed in Al-Jumail city.

A Libyan businessman who refused to be UAE secrete agent tells of brutal torture

A released Libyan businessman from UAE prisons has revealed conditions of his arbitrary detention.

Rifaat Hadagha, who holds a dual Libyan-Canadian nationality, said he was tortured by UAE state security and kept in a windowless cell for 10 months without any charge.

He was among 10 Libyan businessmen who were arrested around August and September, 2014, by UAE state security officers.

Libya may exit CHAN 2016 after losing against Tunisia

Libya’s local football team lost 1-0 to its Tunisian counterpart in the second round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifications, which was held on Monday in Radès Stadium in Tunisia. 

Defending champions Libya plays in group A with Morocco and Tunisia. The Libyan local team will play its second and final match in the group against Morocco next Thursday while Morocco will play Tunisia in the final group matches later on October 25.
