Clashes broke out Monday in front of the MoneyGram money transfer bank in the Seyahia area of Tripoli leading to the death of one person.

Eye witnesses said that the deceased Mohamed Musrati was one of the gunmen within the two rival groups who began by attempting to close the bank off from the public so as to obtain as many money transfers as possible for themselves.

“The clashes also caused considerable collateral damage to the bank as it was bombarded by heavy gunfire and rocket propelled grenades.” The eye witnesses added.

The staff and customers are said to be safe as they had an opportunity to flee the bank before the main hostilities began. Investigations are ongoing to determine the identities of those involved.
