Skirmishes broke out outside Jamhouria Bank in Bab Ben Ghashir district of Tripoli on Monday.

Eyewitnesses said there were around 100 customers in the bank when bank guards exchanged fire with gunmen who stormed the bank to take cash over the limited withdrawals.

The fire caused panic in the bank and disrupted traffic in the nearby roads.

The situation was brought under full control when the Central Security Force intervened and contained the tension.

2 gunmen and 1 guard were injured in the exchange of fire.

Libya is going through a severe liquidity crisis with many banks limiting withdrawals to less than LYD 500 dinars while other banks remained closed, which angered customers and caused recession in the local market.
