The Municipality of Sabha warned on Thursday that the city, the capital of southern Libya, is in imminent danger due to the sewage network.

Unidentified thieves looted the sewage treatment plant equipment in addition to other special materials used for the terminal operation.

A statement by the Media Office of the Water and Sanitation Company in Sabha said that the sewage treatment plant operates around the clock, and even in the case of power failure, power generators were used to supply the plant with electricity.

"Now these power generators have been stolen," the Media Office said.

The municipal council appealed to all stakeholders to intervene to resolve the crisis and to the townspeople of Sabha to be aware of the risks involved in the shutdown of the plant.

"This cowardly and disgraceful act may lead to leaving the city of Sabha uninhabited God forbid, bearing in mind that the sewage might flood the city". The statement added.
