Gunmen have stormed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the eastern government of Abdullah Al-Thanni and assaulted the ministry undersecretary Hassan Al-Saghayar.

Sources from the city said the tribal gunmen demanded some positions in one of the Libyan embassies abroad.

The sources added that the gunmen also assaulted the ministry staff and tried to kidnap Al-Saghayar.

Two of the ministry staff members were taken to hospital suffering from injuries due to the assault.

Last June, militia groups abducted Al-Saghayar from his stay at Marhaba Hotel in Al-Bayda after he refused to issue diplomatic passports for some of the militia leaders.

Al-Saghayar was the ambassador of Libya to Senegal during Al-Zidan's government and a member of Libya's National Transitional Council in 2011.
