Mayors of western Libya held an urgent meeting at the Local Government Ministry in Tripoli on Sunday to find quick solutions to the worsening crisis of power outages in the capital.

The meeting is also aimed at urging cities of Misrata, Al-Khomis, Zawia and towns of Nafousa Mountain to undergo load shedding schedule.

Several Tripoli neighbourhoods are going through long hours of power cuts that reach 12 hours a day amid extreme summer heat waves coupled with high humidity.

Cities of Misrata, Al-Khomis, Zawia and towns of Nafousa Mountain, where the main power generation plants are located, are refusing to endure load shedding, which negatively caused long hours of power outages in the capital.

The refusal of neighbouring cities and towns led an armed brigade in Abu Salim Municipality of Tripoli to also refuse load shedding which has exacerbated the crisis.

The General Electricity Company has turned a deaf ear to the daily calls of Tripoli locals to justify the long-hour power cuts.

On Saturday, angry protesters blocked the highway in Tajoura district of Tripoli to protest the long-hour power outage.
