A maintenance team at the Sirte Oil and Gas Company managed Wednesday to contain the spill of oil at the area 110 km in southern Brega district after almost one-week effort.

Mohammed Al-Hadiri, the foreman of Al-Salam oil field, which is located 140 km to the south of Brega, said Wednesday that the spill was due to corrosion in the pipeline that connects Zilten field (170 km southern Brega) and Sirte Company’s depots due to the nature of the soil in there, saying the spilled oil is not that much.

“Another spill has been also depicted on Tuesday in the same pipeline at the area 17 km southern Brega for the same reasons, however, work is underway today after the maintenance team finished working on the first one.” Al-Hadiri added.

Sirte Company’s depots usually receives 45 thousand barrels from this pipeline making up the whole output of the company from Zilten and Al-Laheeb oil fields, knowing that the company used to produce 85 barrels a day before Al-Racouba and Al-Wadi fields stopped at the beginning of 2015 due to security reasons.
