A newborn infant from Derna died on Thursday after Dignity Operation militia groups prevented the mother to rush to hospital for delivery.

A nine-month pregnant woman from Martuba, a district 27km south of Derna, was on her way with a taxi driver to Hareesh Hospital inside Derna to give birth when Dignity Operation militias stopped them at a checkpoint and prevented them from accessing the city.

The militias arrested the driver, identified as Ahmed Al-Okali, and the woman gave her birth inside the car shortly. Hours later, the newborn infant died and the mother is still suffering from birth complications due to lack of the necessary health care.

The city of Derna is still under siege by Dignity Operation militias who ban all basic supplies from entering the city.
